Chest sizes

JACKET/PARKA/TUNIC

CHEST CIRCUMFERENCE OF GARMENT
= YOUR CHEST SIZE + 2" (5cm)

As these garments are usually worn with a shirt or jumper underneath, we measure each garment and take 2 inches (5cm) off to define a chest size that will comfortably fit.

p-p means pit to pit - i.e. the garment is laid flat and we measure across the armpits and double that distance for full circumference.

GREATCOAT / TRENCHCOAT / WATERPROOF

CHEST CIRCUMFERENCE OF GARMENT
= YOUR CHEST SIZE + 4" (10cm)

These garments are intended to be worn over multiple under-layers and so we make a 4" allowance on top of the wearer's chest size.

Why is our system different?

Because military garment sizing and labelling varies wildly from country to country, we have gone back to basics and after measuring each garment, we provide the chest size and height of a person that the garment will be suitable for.

So, simply measure yourself and look for that size in the options available in any of our products.

What are all the strange numbers and letters shown in the sizing options of each garment?

Military organisations around the world have a wide range of specific sizing systems which will appear on the garment labels. This gives us a great way of managing stock of similarly labelled garments, but it can be confusing to the average purchaser.

Here's a few military systems
(example approximate sizing)

British system - trousers and jackets

170/96 jacket label = suits a 170cm tall person with a 96cm chest
170/84 trousers label = 170cm height with 84cm waist

German - trousers and jackets

GR7 jacket label = suits a 170cm tall person with a 96cm chest
GR7 trousers label = 170cm height with 84cm waist 

Austrian - trousers and jackets

96/100 i/ii jacket label = suits a 170cm tall person with a 96 - 100cm chest
96/100 i/ii trousers label = 170cm height with 96cm waist
(i/ii = short, iii/iv = regular height, v/vi = tall and vii/viii = extra tall) 

French - trousers and jackets

88C jacket label = suits a 170cm tall person with a 88cm chest
88C trousers label= 170cm height with 88cm waist
(C refers to short, R is Regular, L is Long)

Dutch - trousers and jackets

6080/8090 jacket label = would suit a 170cm tall person with a 88cm chest
6080/7080 trousers label = would suit a 170cm height person with 75cm waist
(The first four digit number i.e. 6080, refers to a height range of 1.60m to 1.80 metres tall. The second four digit number refers to the chest or waist size range, depending on the garment - in this case 80 - 90cm) 

Other nations use a variety of random numbering methods where a number is allocated to represent a set height and chest/waist.

Therefore, you can see why we use the simplified method of measuring, and stating chest, waist, jacket drops etc to help you decide.
