British Olive Green Windproof SAS Smock - Reproduction – new
This British olive green windproof smock is one of our most popular men's jackets. It has six large outer pockets making it extremely practical, and a further inner pocket. They are made from a very tight weave gabardine poly/cotton blend that stops wind and retains warmth. It is fastened by a durable plastic zip with a Velcro fastened wind flap and has a large wind proof hood complete with drawstring and toggle. Other features of this jacket include:
- Brand New
- Six pockets with soldier 95 pattern toggle buttons.
- High storm collar to protect the mouth and lower face.
- Gaberdine wind proof material. 65% polyester / 35% cotton.
- Drawstring waist and hem for heat retention and a fitted look.
- Front and rear rank tab slide (vertical epaulettes).
- Velcro cuffs.
- Suits regular height wearer - i.e. 1.8 metres tall
These military jackets are designed as an outer windproof layer to be worn over thermal clothing. They are a generous cut to allow for layering and movement.
Fantastic coat for a host of weathers, great material, wind proof and very high quality.
Very good new smock so many pockets, great value for money.
My smock needed to be replaced and the customer service was brilliant, thank you. The smock is good but, as others have commented, the stitching quality is not great. I'm having to get some re-stitching done, but even with that cost I will end up with what seems to be an otherwise excellent smock for a reasonable overall cost.
Overall a very good smock. Agree that the velcro wrist closures are not its strong point. Or the bottom drawer cord that appears to be cobbled together from a bag of remnants. Those point aside the smock is very good. With a couple of little tweaks it could be excellent
Top quality smock, not one fault with it.
Would have given 5 stats but for some of the stitching quality. Taken the draws strings off as no lover of things that can tangle up when out shooting. Excellent value for the money. Use it for shooting on late summer evenings. Will be used in winter with a fleece under it. Very pleased and thoroughly recommend it.
This is an good jacket but not quite as good as an original. Sizing is great but the velcro tabs at the wrist are to small and the stitching in that area is poor, no way to roll and secure the hood ( additional mods by myself have sorted it now) and it's not very windproof i have just spent 10days away with it in Dorset and it did an ok job but no where near the same as my old issued one. Inside pocket need a closer or something to stop stuff coming out. All in all a good lightweight , midweight jacket. Good for shooting, bushcrafting, cadets, etc
Bought this for my nephew as in TA and he loves it been away with it for weekend with TA and said brilliant wind and water proof and has extra pockets to put all other things, all friends asking where he got it. So well worth the money.
Just the job, does exactly what it says on the tin - windproof, showerproof, plenty of pockets. The 2 poachers pockets on the back were a useful bonus. Good sized hood. Stitching around the Velcro tags on the cuffs a bit on the thin side, and had to restitch one, but quality otherwise good. The sizing description is accurate - ie., the sizes do come up larger than you might anticipate; I got the Large because the Medium was out of stock, and it is very big for my 42” chest. But, I wanted a windproof outer for dog walking, so I’d rather have too big than too small. Tracking on the delivery was useful. I’ve today received 2 more jackets from the same company (Austrian Army Gore-Tex M65’s), and will definitely continue to use you for our future needs. Thanks.
I would have given 5 stars as this is an excellent bit of kit but the stitching quality is very poor -one of the velcro strips was hanging half off and there are loose threads all over - like i say great smock very poor quality control
What can you say , it’s an OG repro sas smock that ticks all the boxes it’s as good as (matter of fact it’s better quality than my surplus MTP one) so for the very reasonable price I paid I think ya a cracking buy .
Feel and look on plus.Material good as well.Worth of recommendation.
Since I still have an original SAS Windproof Smock in DPM (still going strong since 1980) I believe I can comment with some authority on this jacket! Weighing in at a shade under 1Kg, it's actually lighter than the original - but since the original is made with expensive real Gaberdine (largely because it doesn't melt when on fire) that's not surprising. Out of the packet, the fabric feels thin and soft, but a treatment with a showerproofing agent such as Nikwax improves both crispness and thickness. Once treated, the jacket sheds water nicely, requiring 30 minutes of decent rain before the double-layer at hood and shoulders starts to feel damp internally - pretty much like the original. The polycotton is extremely breathable, eminently windproof, and very comfortable against the skin. Military sizing for the large is a 180/104, and the sleeves are correspondingly long. Cuffs are as per the original. Stitching is mostly excellent - tacking at all the stress points - but oddly the bottom of the zip needed some remedial work as elsewhere indicated. Pockets are actually better than the original, since this copy has the Canadian-style taped buttons, whilst the original jacket just had badly-stitched buttons. Drawcord hood closure is as per the original, with the strange Y-shaped device, fitted (again as per the original) backwards, with the white button facing outwards! The two rank tabs (front and back) are a mistake, however - they aren't present on the original (Special Forces don't single out the officers for early assassination), and will only be removed by civilian wearers. Quality control note - the drawcord in the bottom hem was made of three separate bits of tape stitched together - easily replaced, but really? In summary, this is a comfortable, breathable, windproof, showerproof outer layer that isn't overtly military, easily worn over other clothing, and a good fit for a 6-footer.
I bought the XL size chest size 44 to 46,I am 45 chest,6ft 2,15 and a half stone and It fitted great. It is loose enough to wear a zip up fleece or jumper under it.
I am Ex Army and think It is of good quality I and at an excellent price.
I use this smock for Hiking in the countryside,it is OK for light rain but I carry a waterproof jacket in the pocket or a rucksack for heavy rain.Quick delivery also .
Very well made & rather generous sized coat, handy pockets. Good value for money- a new jacket- service excellent as always.
Good copy of the original ones .I like that the material has a softer feel .very pleased with it.
Great purchase of the jacket. Removed the rank tabs not needed. Shipping to the US was quick 7 days. Highly recommended.
Good jacket for the price.
Good points: windproof, sheds water nicely, good pockets, well stitched, good copy of the originals.
Bad points: non-nylon zip bottoms, lack of hood closure tab, odd Velcro placement on the storm flap and cuffs.
As I say, good copy of the original, and after removing the rank tabs and fashioning a hood tab more than adequate for its intended use. Don’t regret purchasing, and would recommend to others.
I am completely satisfied with your service. An excellent reproduction-smock at a very cheap price.
I recently purchased a green windproof smock and a Berghaus Vulcan rucksack from your company. I am completely satisfied with your service and the products. The smock has mixed comments on your site and I can say the only fault I can see is the webbing reinforcement at the base of the zip on both sides. The material used is a soft cotton that is “unfinished” i.e not hemmed to prevent fraying and ultimately becoming useless. On the MOD issue smock a nylon webbing material is used and this is burnt/cut with a hot knife to prevent the material fraying and eventually dissolving. One comment from an individual obviously not in the know, complains about the adjuster on the hood, I can confirm that this is the same item that is used on genuine MOD issued smocks. The length of the drawcords and Velcro strips is a perfect match for MOD issue smocks of the same pattern. The buttons are of the “tape” variety or sometimes referred to as “Canadian” buttons, the length is a wee bit long but can be easily shortened with a needle and thread. At least they are not too short. An excellent reproduction at a very reasonable price.
Not the quality of my old Ventile smock but for the price, you can't go wrong.
hi you were out of stock. you are to refund my money. william dennehy
This is a quality smock at a very reasonable price. Delivery once purchased was very quick too. The smock itself is a military copy and you can tell that although lightweight it is not too bad for the price you pay. I love this jacket as I can add whatever layers I need according to the time of year. Anyway the smock gives me room enough to add more base layers when the temperature goes down. All in all very pleased Thankyou.
I was not expecting a top quality item but the smock is ok for my purposes. The hem draw cords are overly long, the finish of the front zip stop at the bottom is a bit cheap and shoddy. It suffers from the same lower hem problem as the real service issue smocks, ie the velcro is not man enough to hold it together, so you need to secure the draw cord and tuck the hem under. Button tapes are over long on mine too. The hood adjuster could be better, but if you keep it round the back of the hood it's no problem.
The label inside the neck of the jacket is a cheap copy of the issue label, and a complete waste of time as it fools no one.
Personal adjustments will be addition of bungee cord and cord locks where needed, and some extra proofing to make it a bit more weather proof, but as a green jacket for general outdoor use it's fine.
As I've said, for the money it's ok, if it lasts a year or so then nothing lost, if it lasts longer it will be a bargain.
The plain Olive Green Drab colour (not color please) is great, DPM is not always appropriate. I think the material itself is good. Very soft and smooth but feels strong too. I think the fit is good and true to size, although they only seem available in 180 cm height. But pleased with the generous sleeve length. It is lightweight but because the material is so fine it has good windproof quality. I find the pull cords on the hood all a bit strange and think they should be changed on future productions. Yes, there are a few little areas that will benefit from some home stitching which I will do. I'm also going to remove the rather strange (large) hood adjusting plastic clamp by using some standard small plastic spring toggles. I will add these to the other cords too. Great for the price!
Just to say how pleased I am with my wind proof smock.ideal for walking and I find the pockets great . I would certainly recommend this excellent jacket to all.
Overall a very good garment, sizing is as marked...
My only downer would be the lower quality stitching around some of the button holes and the overly long button tabs...
Would I recommend this item to my friends? Yes... But with the proviso that some minor restitching will need to be done.
In future I will purchase another for field/bushcraft use along with this one...
Good bird-watching jacket. Keeps out wind without roasting me. Tough polyester-cotton material. (Not intended to be warm or waterproof but it will keep out the wet for a time.)Pockets super - field glasses, notebook, pencils, sandwiches, GPS, map, torch, batteries, field guide, camera, mobile phone - all go in the pockets. Like the buttons, held on by cloth strips not thread. Colour excellent for this use. Stitched the hood back an inch to improve fit. Material dries fast.
