CHEST CIRCUMFERENCE OF GARMENT
As these garments are usually worn with a shirt or jumper underneath, we measure each garment and take 2 inches (5cm) off to define a chest size that will comfortably fit.
p-p means pit to pit - i.e. the garment is laid flat and we measure across the armpits and double that distance for full circumference.

CHEST CIRCUMFERENCE OF GARMENT
These garments are intended to be worn over multiple under-layers and so we make a 4" allowance on top of the wearer's chest size.
Why is our system different?
Because military garment sizing and labelling varies wildly from country to country, we have gone back to basics and after measuring each garment, we provide the chest size and height of a person that the garment will suitable for.
So, simply measure yourself and look for that size in the options available in any of our products.
What are all the strange numbers and letters shown in the sizing options of each garment?
Military units around the world have a wide range of specific sizing systems which will appear on the garment labels. So, this gives us a great way of managing stock of similar garments, but it can be confusing to the average purchaser.
Here's a few military systems
French army "Gore-Tex" jacket in CCE camouflage pattern. This garment is awesome, and full of clever fitting and function additions. Used as an shell over-jacket, it adds a great waterproof layer on to top of warm garments worn beneath or even protective biking gear.
The front zip has a quick release facility so that when the zip slide is pulled right up to the top, it is possible to wrench the zip apart and separate it right down to the bottom and 'bug out' quickly. See the video here
Motorcyclists may be interested in the design being suitable for use over a military helmet too, and so there's extra capacity in the hood's volume to permit this. But of course, not everyone needs this extra capacity, and so there's an adjuster strap at the rear to prevent the hood covering the wearer's face, genius.
Fantastic quality, genuine military waterproof jacket full of features including:
Waterproof and breathable MVP material allows sweat to escape while keeping out wind and rain.
Very important note on size options.
These "Gore-Tex" jackets are designed to be a lightweight waterproof and breathable outer layer (hard shell), to be worn over thermal layers so they are a generously cut to allow for layering and movement. The sizes we list are based on the measured chest width from arm-pit to arm-pit. The French labelling system does not reflect the measured dimensions of the jacket, but relates to one particular size of kit that would be issued to a particular individual - i.e. for instance, a French soldier with a 104cm chest, would have all of his jackets and under garments with 104C on the labels, and the top layer would by design have a bigger chest dimension in order to accommodate all of the under layers, clever eh?
This is one of our most popular "Gore-Tex" jackets and it is easy to see why, packed with features, hard wearing and built to last. They come in CCE camouflage pattern which was first issued to French forces in 1991 and is still in use to this day, perfect for a wide range of outdoor activities.
See our technical notes page regarding Gore-Tex.
